Ryan had lunch with Bro. Abel today. He is a missionary our local churches sponsor in Honduras. His church in Honduras is doing very well and he now feels a calling to go into a new area of the world.
We learned a great deal from Bro Abel today. I never realized just how many missionaries that we have around the world. Our eyes were opened wide when he showed us just how many people have never heard the gospel.
There are soo many missionaries in countries that have access to the gospel but there is a large area of the world who has never heard the gospel. Bro Abel’s calling is switching to further help this area.
He explained to us that in the Muslim/Buddhism/Hinduism world there are million to billions of people who’ve never heard the gospel. There are very few missionaries in this area compared to those who live in this area. One of the problems in ministering with this community is the hostility toward the American people. Bro Abel and the Latin community have more of an appearance to blend into these communities and can have an impact on their lives.
The second problem that they are having is that the groups of missionaries that are in that region of the world are very young men who’ve surrendered and moved away from their support system. They are doing great work but lack a mentor. He told us over lunch that when church members visit one missionary that there are often 15-20 that travel from all over the region for the opportunity to learn.
Bro. Abel is working toward starting a ministry for those young missionaries within these countries. He will serve as their mentor and help them to reach farther out within thses countries. Within the year he hopes to move to Australia and estabolish a base for his ministry. Australia will be the base for his move because the ease of which one can obtain a visa is much greater than in Latin America or America.
We greatly enjoyed having lunch with Bro. Abel. I’m very excited to follow Bro. Abel through this journey. I am also thankful to have had the opportunity to learn from Bro Abel and also to have an example of a man Ryan has met to better help to teach Ryan about Ministry.
