A Little Progress

Ryan had a few bumps overnight. He had a few periods of apnea when he tried to swallow and bear down at the same time. Thankfully the heart rate drops didnt last for too many seconds. Gammy was a lifesaver overnight!! Ive not slept much at all (maybe two hours) in the last 36 hours. She allowed me to sleep and worked Lil Man overnight. So far today we've been tag teaming his care.

We received Encourraging news this morning. Ryan's gasses are back to his normal. He has not had any more heart rate or pulse ox drops so far today. He has even been holdng his sats well while taking his bottles. His chest x ray was much improved this morning. The doctor said that with his xray improvements that he dose not believe that Ryan has been aspirating any of his feeds.

Ryan's oxygen flow was decreased to 1/2 liters at 100% oxygen(this is a setting that he can return home on). Since his CO2 has returned to his normal the doctor is only going to check it daily instead of every six hours! He also wrote to stop his chest xrays. He will continue to get his chest physio and inhalers.

The doctor is still concerned that Ryan is using too much time (which equals energy) to take his feedings. He has been started on a thickener to his feeds in addition to an increased calorie ratio. He has also started Ryan on prevacid to make sure he isn't having any reflux. (Apparently reflux can manifest itself as nasal sounding in neonates)

OT worked with Ryan twice today. We have now switched nipples again. Since his formula is thickened he has to have a nipple with a larger hole for his feeds to escape the bottle. He is now taking a nuk nipple. So far his last two feedings he has takin within 20 minutes!!

So far Ryan has had a pretty productive day. We are still working on his feedings and watching his breathing/ lungs very closely.

We were very blessed to have a visit from Bro. Donnie this afternoon. We thank everyone for your continued prayers!! I know they are why bring us through each of our challenges!!
