Ryan had a fairly peaceful night. Ryan slept off and on in his swing throughout the night. He was NOT happy about his IV in his arm and told us about it every chance he could!
Our day began around 5 am. He woke me up crying and I got him changed and rocked him back to contentment before the nurse came in to prepare him for surgery.
It is funny we watched so many new premie babies come through the NICU that were placed in CareCenters and wondered if Ryan would EVER get that big. It dawned on us before surgery that our little man was FINALLY big enough for a normal CareCenter!!
Ryan did exceptionally well waiting on his surgery and then did even better during his surgery. There was an emergency that the surgeons had to tend to before Ryan’s procedure so we didn’t get to the OR till around noon.
His procedure took around 30 minutes. They fixed his hernia on the left and also checked and found a small weakening on the right. They fixed this spot also so that he shouldn’t have to undergo this same procedure when he is older.
It was decided by the anesthesiologist before surgery that Ryan
would remain on the vent in order to wake up. She was concerned that the walk
between the unit and the OR was too long to get into an emergency situation. This is actually a pretty good thing. Ryan will get to rest and get the pain medication that he needs.Ryan is still very feisty! It took three people to hold him still enough to get his post-surgical chest xray!!

Overall he is doing amazing! They will continue to wean his vent throughout the night and attempt to remove it in the morning. Our Neonatologist was very excited at how well Ryan has been doing! His goal is to get him off of the vent in the morning, eating his bottle, and back into the room with us!
For nothing is impossible with GOD.
